IRISH FARMERS RIPPED OFF BY GOLDMAN SACHS AND WALL STREET BANKSTERS

GM-free Ireland, 26 July 2010.

Last week, Caitriona Murphy of the Irish Independent wrote an uncritical article quoting Mairead McGuinness, Marian Harkin and other Irish MEPs who accuse the Irish Government of causing the high price of animal feed, because it is one of the EU Member States that regularly abstains from voting on EC requests to approve new types of GM animal feed made in the USA  (see item 4 below).

But an investigative cover story published by Harpers magazine on 1 July exposes the real reason for the high prices: hedge fund speculation by Goldman Sachs and other Wall street banksters (see items 1, 2 and 3 and our comments in item 5 below)

To make up your own mind – and realise the level of propaganda aimed at Irish farmers and consumers – take a minute to watch the videos and read the Harpers article, and then compare them to the Indo article and our comments below.

While Goldman Sachs agreed to pay $550 million to resolve a civil fraud lawsuit filed by the SEC, Goldman has not been held accountable for many of its other questionable investment practices. A new article in Harper’s Magazine examines the role Goldman played in the food crisis of 2008 when the ranks of the world’s hungry increased by 250 million. We speak to Harper’s contributing editor Frederick Kaufman.
