IRISH RAIL VEGETATION CLEARANCE
Metro on Tuesday 19th August
Letter from William Maher Forest Friends Ireland

The recent heavy rains have caused disruption for rail communters.  Some of
this is attributable to landslides near malahide (and other areas).  Irish
Rail has to take responsibility for this due to its continuing campaign to
clear vegetation including trees from the embankments.  As we know from
other countries where bigger landslide disasters take place this is
directly attributable to clearing of trees and forests from hillside.  So
Irish Rail wake up and look at the positives and not the relatively minor
negatives of rail-side vegetation and ecology.
